Plastic Injection Mold Tooling Manufacturer

Retlaw Designs the Right Solution for Your Project

Retlaw Industries has been a leader in tool-making for plastic injection molds for a variety of industries. Our master toolmakers work with our state-of-the-art machinery to create the exact mold you need for your OEM parts.

Plastic tooling is the process of creating molds used in plastic injection molding. It involves designing the mold, crafting its components, testing for quality and adjustments, and then using the mold for mass production of plastic parts. The process ensures accurate and consistent production of plastic items.

The tooling specialists at Retlaw work in tandem with CAD designers to create custom high-accuracy tool molds for thermoplastic products. We use a wide variety of tools and CNC machines, from Wire Electrical Discharge Machining and Sinker EDM to CNC lathes and surface grinders. Working together, our designers and machinists can make just about any plastic mold you can dream up.

Graphite Electrode Machining for Sinker EDMEDM Tooling and Composite Part Design

Retlaw produces graphite patterns for use in the EDM process. Machining graphite to shape and burn the detail into steel can reduce lead time and create extreme detail, resulting in faster turnaround times for your product.

EDM Machining

After the graphite block is machined into a graphite electrode it is mounted to an electrode holder and inserted in the EDM machine where a positive or negative charge is applied to the graphite. The charged graphite transfers its charge to the steel mold material, and the sparks erode the steel to create opposite shapes required to create the tooling.

In order to control the spark, the electrode is submerged in an insulating liquid, often de-ionized water or oils. The electrode is kept at a consistent distance from the workpiece and the dielectric fluid surrounding it prevents short-circuiting. This entire process is called sinker or ram EDM.

Precise Wire EDMWire EDM spooling machine

Retlaw is able to cut molds to the highest tolerances possible thanks to our Wire EDM machines. Wire EDM sends an electrical charge through a piece of wire. The wire cuts an extremely precise line as it cuts through steel up to 12 inches thick with tolerances as small as .0005".

EDM techniques enable cutting without burring, which reduces the need for additional finishing of the workpiece.
